This Kentucky Wildcat is set to have a special season for Mark Pope.
As Kentucky head coach Mark Pope assembles his 2025–26 roster, he’s made headlines with several high-profile additions through the transfer portal. But one of the most intriguing players he’s brought in might also be the most overlooked—Kam Williams, a transfer guard from Tulane.
Williams was the first portal commitment for the Wildcats, yet he hasn’t received the same buzz as others in the class. That could change quickly.
As a true freshman at Tulane last season, Williams averaged:
9.3 points
4.5 rebounds
1.3 assists
1.4 steals
1.1 blocks
He also shot an impressive 48.5% from the field and 41.2% from three, taking 4.6 attempts per game—showing he’s more than capable of being a high-volume, high-efficiency shooter.
At 6’8″ with a wingspan over seven feet, Williams brings a pro-ready frame to the college game. His length, shooting ability, and ball-handling skills make him a rare find at the guard position—and a player with serious long-term potential.
Despite being somewhat under the radar compared to Kentucky’s other transfer additions, Williams may have the highest upside on the roster, rivaled only by incoming freshman Jayden Quaintance.
He’ll compete for a starting spot alongside Denzel Aberdeen and Jasper Johnson, and there’s a real chance he earns that role.
College basketball fans may not know Kam Williams yet—but that could change the moment he takes the floor at Rupp Arena.
