Salah scored and made two goals as Liverpool kept a clean sheet in the 5-0 romp at West Ham United on Sunday as Arne Slot’s side stretched their lead at the top of the Premier League table.
Post-match, the Egyptian told Sky Sports that Liverpool were “no closer” to finding an agreement on a new contract.
But despite Salah and Van Dijk being able to negotiate deals with other clubs on January 1, Owen says they will both ink fresh terms at Anfield. Alexander-Arnold is a different matter, though, according to the former England forward, who also swapped Anfield for the Bernabeu.
“At some point it will just happen. But people won’t be getting regular updates from the club. These things tend to happen in private and with three big players it’s getting a lot of traction,” he said.
“He’ll keep getting asked and he’ll keep batting it off. I’ve said a few times, I’m still confident Mohamed Salah will sign. I don’t see where else he’d go. If he was that against signing, he’d have never have come out and made a fuss about it. That sounds like a person who wants to get it done and is a bit agitated. I’m more confident on Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
“I’m not sure about Trent Alexander-Arnold. I’m not that confident. I just think the stars have aligned., Real Madrid are desperate for a right-back and Trent is on a free at the end of the year. New challenge, his good friend Jude Bellingham is out there. There’s a lot of things that piece together that make me think that could happen.
“Salah’s value is going up week by week. I bet Liverpool wish they’d done it a year ago. You can’t be without him. You can’t be without Virgil van Dijk. These are two of the best in the world. You don’t find them anywhere else.
“They are in the best position possible. They are holding all the aces in this negotiation.”
On Salah, Owen added: “He’s become a real top finisher. I didn’t think I’d ever say that 10 years ago, in fact a lot of people thought he was a really poor finisher. He’s lethal in front of goal and very rarely misses.”
