Chelsea’s rivals Liverpool are doing extremely well in the Premier League under Arne Slot right now.
Liverpool are currently top of the table, sitting above Arsenal and Chelsea, who find themselves in second and third respectively.
However, the Reds have not had too much help from the one signing who went into their first-team squad in the summer, a signing Chelsea were linked with before his move to Anfield.
He may now not get the chance to play at Stamford Bridge this season amid talk of a swift exit in January.
Chelsea made the correct decision not signing Federico Chiesa
Back in July, it was claimed that Chelsea were in contact with Federico Chiesa’s agent about a potential move to west London.
In the end, nothing materialised and the attacker went on to join Liverpool instead. At the time, for many, it felt like the Merseyside club were getting a bit of a bargain.
Chiesa arrived at Anfield as an experienced Italy international who had played for Juventus and only cost his new employers an initial £10m.
But fast forward to the present, the 27-year-old has only played one league game for Slot’s side, while it is now being reported that he could already be on his way out of Liverpool.
According to Foot Mercato, Chiesa is hoping to return to Italy on loan to kick-start his career.
For just £10m, making a move for Chiesa in the summer could have sounded really tempting to Chelsea. But they clearly made the right decision staying away from him.
How Federico Chiesa and Jadon Sancho compare
While Chelsea did not sign Chiesa, they did end up bringing in Jadon Sancho from Manchester United.
Unlike Chiesa, who has missed a large chunk of the season so far because of injury, Sancho has been available for Chelsea more often than not and has been able to make an impact.
In contrast to Chiesa, who has only made one appearance in the Premier League, Sancho has featured in 12 top-flight games. Across those games, he has managed to score two goals and provide three assists.
Sancho is making 2.2 dribbles per match, which is the highest average in Chelsea’s squad, according to WhoScored. He is also making 1.3 key passes per match, putting him only behind Enzo Fernandez (1.7) and Cole Palmer (2.7).
Of course, not playing enough minutes, Chiesa has not registered averages in either of those areas.

Jadon Sancho 12 763 2 3 2.2 1.3
Premier League only
All in all, given his injury record and the fact that he could already be set for a Premier League exit, Chelsea made the right call signing the likes of Sancho and Pedro Neto over Chiesa.
