Liverpool secured their place in the last four of the Carabao Cup with a 2-1 win at Southampton on Wednesday night. Goals from Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott did the damage, despite Cameron Archer reducing the deficit in the second half.
The holders will learn their semi-final fate on Thursday evening after Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have squared off in the final quarter-final meeting. Arsenal and Newcastle United have already booked their own place alongside Arne Slot’s team, but you knew all of that, of course.

There were ironic cheers from the home fans in the first half when Cody Gakpo struggled to bring down a high ball in what were particularly rainy conditions at St Mary’s.
Gakpo stretched out a leg to control the pass but the wind played its part which resulted in the attack coming to nothing but a goal kick for the home side. Cue the cheers from the home ends, who took great delight in the poor touch from the Reds striker with the score at 1-0.
Liverpool supporters wasted little time offering a riposte to their hosts, informing them of their opinion that they will in fact be relegated this Premier League season – alongside Everton. Although it wasn’t quite phrased so politely.
