The 32-year-old has now received an offer from the Reds, although nothing has yet been confirmed by the club or Salah. The Mirror though did suggest before the offer had been widely reported that a breakthrough had been reached, with a two-year deal being agreed.
“So, I’ve read a little about this over the past few hours, and as I understand, Salah’s renewed his contract with Liverpool for two more seasons,” Aguero told Stake.com.
“I think this should clear all doubts about his future. He remains a key player and a fresh contract is the best news Liverpool could receive.”
Despite Aguero’s assurance, nothing has yet been announced on the futures of Salah, Virgil van Dijk or Trent Alexander-Arnold, although all three have now received offers from Liverpool to extend their stays at Anfield.
As things stand, all three players will be out of contract at the end of the season, and will be able to negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs from next month unless they put pen to paper before then.
Salah is thought to favor staying put on Merseyside, although he has dropped some hints this season that he could be playing his final campaign for the Reds. Were he to leave, it would be a major blow to Liverpool, considering he has 16 goals and 13 assists from 23 appearances in all competitions so far this season.
While not quite going as far to suggest it’s a done deal, reports in Spain have claimed Salah is on the verge of agreeing a new deal. MARCA says the new terms could be penned before the end of the month because the Egyptian forward has been “seduced” into staying at Liverpool.
Of course, we won’t rest easy until we see a picture of him putting pen to paper. Hopefully that might not be too far away though.
