Arne Slot has confirmed that Federico Chiesa will remain sidelined until after the November international break. The Italy international joined the Reds in an initial £10m move from Juventus in late-August, but has been limited to just three appearances for the club because of injury.
The 27-year-old was last included in a Liverpool matchday squad away at Wolves at the end of September. While he is closing in on a return after a month on the sidelines, the forward is set to miss the Reds’ clashes with Brighton & Hove Albion, Bayer Leverkusen and Aston Villa.
And speaking ahead of Liverpool’s clash with the Seagulls, Slot revealed that he is hopeful that Chiesa will step up his recovery during the upcoming November international break before returning to team training.
“Chiesa is not back before the international break, so maybe only a week to go,” the Dutchman said. “We’re hoping that he can do things again during the international break and that he can join us afterwards.”
Meanwhile, Slot reiterated that both Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota also remain on course to return after the November international break, though the Dutchman stopped short of pencilling in an extra return date for the injured pair.
“I think I said already a few times that it’s always difficult to tell you exactly when they are ready,” he said. “Especially the last phase of the recovery can always be a few days extra or less.
“The fact is they are not there before the international break and let’s see if they can join us after.”
