Darwin Nunez’s market value has seemingly fallen during the early weeks of the season. Nunez has entered his third campaign with the Reds since signing from Benfica in the summer of 2022.
Liverpool agreed to pay an initial fee worth £64.1 million two years ago, with add-ons taking the potential fee up to £85.5 million. The Uruguayan agreed a six-year contract that runs until 2028, but his time at Anfield has been inconsistent in terms of goalscoring output.
Nunez has scored 34 goals in 103 appearances for Liverpool and has just one this season for the Reds. That form has led to Transfermarkt adjusting their valuation of Nunez on the transfer market.
The outlet has listed Nunez as being valued at €65 million (£54.5 million). This is a decrease on what the Liverpool striker was valued at in May this year which was €70 million (£58.7 million).
Nunez has also been valued by the CIES Football Observatory which is used to measure the standard or players across world football. The outlet states that the Liverpool striker is valued between €86 million (£72 million) and €109 million (£91.3 million).
Arne Slot was asked about Nunez’s form after Liverpool beat Bologna in the Champions League last week. The Reds head coach defended the striker after he decided to substitute Nunez early in the second half.
Nunez has at times struggled to adapt to the demands of Slot since his appointment at Anfield in the summer. There have been some reports linking the player with a move to Barcelona.
“I don’t only focus on the individual,” Slot told reporters last week. “I think in the first hour, we didn’t create a lot of chances for him as well because we missed out on the last pass on numerous occasions.
“If we had done better, that would probably have led to chances for him as well.
“His home game against Bournemouth, great goal. Today he was also involved against a team we faced that was really hard and tough on him. And his team-mates didn’t always find him when they could have.
“I don’t think it is really on us to say, ‘he only scored one for Liverpool’, because you also have to look at the playing time he got.
“It’s a bit early to say after three starts he only scored one. For me that is a bit too early.”
