He has hardly kept it a secret that he wants to leave Liverpool to become a starting goalkeeper elsewhere.
The Republic of Ireland international suggested last month that he was denied from leaving Anfield, with Kelleher saying he will hold talks with Liverpool regarding a potential exit in January having missed out on a move in the summer.
Praised by Chris Sutton last season as a ‘phenomenal’ goalkeeper, Kelleher has shown time and time again with Liverpool that he’s ready to leave Merseyside to forge a career for himself away from being Alisson Becker’s deputy.
And Liverpool insiders are seemingly sympathetic towards Kelleher’s situation.
Liverpool feel for Kelleher but won’t be moved to sell him
According to the Liverpool Echo, Anfield officials have sympathy for Kelleher and his desire to move, but the Reds won’t be swayed in allowing the goalkeeper to leave given how frustrating Alisson’s injury record has been this season.
The Brazilian international missed Liverpool’s 3-0 win against AFC Bournemouth last night with Kelleher filling in for Alisson as the goalkeeper this weekend was forced off against Crystal Palace after aggravating his thigh injury.
Indeed, Kelleher finds himself in an awkward situation where the goalkeeper clearly has to move on if he’s to get anything out of his career whilst Liverpool want to retain the Irish talent in the event that Alisson picks up another injury.
And although Kelleher could feature often for the Reds between now and the January window if Alisson’s thigh problem fails to go away, the Cork-born shot-stopper knows he still needs a move from Liverpool, something the Reds now look intent on blocking.
Kelleher could have to request a transfer in January
Kelleher has made his intentions known for some time that he wants to move on from Liverpool given how small his chances are in becoming the Anfield side’s starting goalkeeper with Alisson so far ahead of the Irish international.
And with Liverpool still not budging on their stance to sell Kelleher even with their sympathies, the 25-year-old could have to put in a transfer request in the January window in order to force a move once and for all.
The January window is expected to be busy given how little was spent this summer from Premier League sides, and Kelleher could find himself a move at long last if he takes control of the situation and pushes for a move.
