Jamie Carragher has agreed with Arne Slot on how Liverpool have approached the transfer window amid the transition period that has been the Dutchman taking the reins at Anfield.
Arne Slot’s arrival has been accompanied by a cautious approach to the transfer market.
So far, Liverpool has not completed any major signings, focusing instead on assessing the existing squad and potential targets.
This slow activity has been attributed to a combination of factors, including the need for careful financial management and the complexity of the market, with other top clubs also vying for high-profile players.
Liverpool’s primary areas to focus on should be enforcing their defensive depth and midfield options.
With Joel Matip’s departure and Virgil van Dijk entering the final year of his contract, the club has been linked with several central defenders, including Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.
Additionally, there is a recognized need for a quality defensive midfielder to complement the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo.
The success of Liverpool’s first transfer window under Arne Slot will be pivotal in shaping the club’s fortunes for the upcoming season.
With high expectations and a need to keep pace with rivals, the club’s management must navigate these challenges effectively to ensure a strong start to the new campaign.
But Jamie Carragher feels that Arne Slot will get his players, and has suggested that fans are wrong to be stressed as things stand.
WHAT DID JAMIE CARRAGHER SAY ABOUT ARNE SLOT AND NEW SIGNINGS?
The Liverpool legend assured fans that there is nothing to worry about regarding incoming transfers, and that the way the club is handling this summer is correct:
“No, they’re [fans] not right to be concerned. You’ve got to trust the club,” Carragher said to SPORTbible when quizzed about fan frustration over a lack of transfer business.
“What this club has done with transfer fees over the last eight to 10 years has been phenomenal.”
“We’ve got the structure back at the club that everybody wanted, trust them, let them do their job.”
“Liverpool are a very good team so it’s not easy to go and find players who are better than what you’ve got.”
“That’s the only reason you should be bringing players in anyway and you’ve also got a manager who doesn’t know the squad yet either.”
Carragher continued:
“I could probably understand the frustration if Jurgen Klopp was still the manager because we want to get our business done early, he knows the squad better than anyone and knows exactly what we need.”
“Arne Slot will be listening to Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes but you want to see things with your own eyes, all the players aren’t even back yet. I’m not worried about it.”
This is in the same tune as what Arne Slot himself said about transfers after the USA Tour ended, with the 45-year-old coach saying:
“The bar is really high for new signings because we have so many good players so it is not so easy to first find a player to meet those standards and then is he available?”
“Then we have to find an agreement with them, so it is not always easy to find a player who can help us but Richard is working hard on it and let’s see what comes from this.”
So, for now, it seems that there is nothing to worry about according to both Arne Slot and Jamie Carragher on the transfer front.
Nevertheless, it’s clear that the Anfield club needs to get a move on sooner rather than later if they want to equip Arne Slot with the best possible tools to succeed in 2024/25.
