Liverpool are preparing for a new dawn under Arne Slot, who was chosen to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp decided to depart Anfield after nine successful years on Merseyside, where he won the Premier League title and the Champions League back in 2019.
The German’s decision to depart Liverpool was a surprise but Arne Slot, who guided Feyenoord to the Eredivise title back in 2023, could prove to be an inspired appointment from the decisionmakers at the club.
Slot wants new additions to his team with a defender and a new forward understood to be targets but the midfield is not a priority.
Forgotten midfielder could be key during pre-season
Sources have told HITC that Liverpool believe they have more than enough options in the midfield, hence a new player added to the engine room is understood to not be a priority.
With Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo, the club believe they have quality, add in Curtis Jones and Trent Alexander-Arnold who can play there but there is one forgotten teenager that the club still have hope for.
Stefan Bajcetic has had a frustrating 12 months due to consistent injury problems but sources have told HITC that they have high hopes for the midfielder and believe that the 19-year-old could play a key role this season.
The Spaniard is just 19 but made quite the impact during the 2022/23 season and he could be set for another chance to prove himself under a new manager.
Bajcetic received high praise from both Salah and former manager Klopp
During Klopp’s penultimate season at Anfield, Liverpool struggled hugely and finished outside of the Champions League places.
Whilst the club’s performances was a struggle, one player stood out as the season went by and that was the Spaniard Bajcetic.
Following a crucial victory over Everton, Klopp and influential forward Mohamed Salah were full of praise for the midfielder.
“(He’s) a great player and person, he always tries to work hard,” Salah said.
“Since he started playing for us, he has been our best player maybe so hopefully he keeps that confidence and keeps going.”
Klopp, meanwhile, said: “We are really happy with him, a top boy, really smart and calm. He played in a new position, at eight, and I asked him afterwards if he liked it and he said yes.”
A midfielder with a supreme passing ability and composure beyond his years, Bajcetic could be a player to look out for during pre-season.
