It took Alexis Mac Allister just one season to already solidify himself as a fan favourite at Anfield.
Liverpool bought the Argentinian for a reported £35m from Brighton last summer, with the 25-year-old arriving off the back of helping the Seagulls to their best-ever Premier League finish and a triumphant World Cup campaign.
The 25-year-old started thirty of the 38 Premier League games this season, contributing five assists and four goals to Liverpool’s third-place finish.
He did have a knee injury around November/December last year, but otherwise he was dependable and available whenever Jurgen Klopp needed him.
The £35m Liverpool paid appeared cheap at the time, and with how Mac Allister has performed thus past season – it can now be considered a steal for Liverpool.
Considering what Chelsea paid for the likes of Moises Caicedo (£115m) and Marc Cucurella (£62m), Liverpool definitely got the better side of the Brighton deal.
Mac Allister spoke about his season at Liverpool while on duty for his nation recently, saying:
“I’m very happy with Liverpool,” he told ESPN.
“I think it was a good season individually, then we had some objectives that we couldn’t meet, but even so I think it was a very good season.”
The World Cup winner will likely be a central focus for Argentina if they are to defend their Copa America title this summer.
Mac Allister had an outstanding World Cup in Qatar and will look to build on that performance in the United States this summer.
Now in the perhaps more temperate Americas climate, Mac Allister has revealed that the weather is the toughest thing he has to deal with while at Liverpool.
Speaking with the Premier League (h/t Empire of the Kop), the Argentine was quizzed:
“Is England as cold as they say?”
To which he replied
“Oh, yes. Especially for us, since we’re used to the weather in South America. It’s the toughest thing.”
Despite being at Brighton since 2019 and having Scottish blood, the midfield maestro is still coming to terms with the cold weather.
Mac Allister also previously revealed that Mohamed Salah called him out for dressing warmly in the cold UK weather this past season:
“When I was at Brighton I used to wear trousers [in training],” Mac Allister said.
“Then I came here and I remember against Sheffield [United], we went out to do the warm up and I was wearing a hat and trousers and Mo Salah told me ‘what are you doing?! Why do you wear that?!”
“So, since that day I never wore trousers again. Only because of Mo!”
Hopefully Mac Allister will eventually get used to the weather in Liverpool and spend many more years at Anfield.
