Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have had injury problems in recent weeks, but they have coped well.
Liverpool have already won the Carabao Cup this season, and they are now trying to clinch the Premier League, the FA Cup and the UEFA Europa League.
One of the players who has come to the fore for Liverpool this season is Joe Gomez.
The £3.5 million (The Guardian) defender has been a peripheral figure for the Reds for years, having joined the Merseyside club back in 2015.
The 26-year-old has made 132 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. He has given five assists and has kept 46 clean sheets in those games.
Gomez has made 40 appearances for Liverpool this season. He has given three assists in those games. Alan Shearer has been impressed.
Michael Dawson praises Liverpool defender Joe Gomez
Gomez has played as a centre-back, left-back and right-back this season, and former Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson is confused about his best position.
The Sky Sports pundit has said that England head coach Gareth Southgate should take the Liverpool defender to the Euro 2024 finals as a squad player.
Dawson said about Gomez on Sky Sports News (12:38 pm, March 16, 2024): “He has got a huge chance, and he thoroughly deserves this call-up.
“I am still not sure about his best position. He has played right-back, he has played centre-back, he has played left-back.
“It is great for an England squad that you have got him. He is quick, he has got a distribution, he has got more games this season than he has ever played before for Liverpool – that’s been down to the injury crisis that Liverpool have had in the full-back area. I think you would take him as a squad player.”
My View: Joe Gomez has to consider his Liverpool future
In my opinion, Liverpool and England international defender Joe Gomez has to consider his future in the summer transfer window.
If Gomez goes to the European Championship and plays, then he has to look at potentially leaving Liverpool in the summer of 2024.
The 26-year-old is not going to get ahead of Virgil van Dijk or Ibrahima Konate in the Liverpool starting lineup.
Gomez has his best years ahead of him, and I do not think that the defender should be wasting them on the bench.
