Brazilian football legend Ronaldo has given his prediction for this season’s Premier League title winner.
Manchester City are bidding to make football history by being crowned champions, making it their fourth continuous victory. This feat is something no team has achieved since English top flight football started in 1888.
Man City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, has led Barcelona and Bayern Munich to four consecutive title triumphs in his previous jobs in Spain and Germany, and is now on the verge of more historic achievements. It is building up, however, to be one of the most exciting title races in a long time.
Despite a thrilling 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield leaving them just a single point ahead of rivals Arsenal and Liverpool, Ronaldo is confident City will lift the trophy. When asked who he thought was going to win, his straightforward answer was: “City.”
Even Guardiola expressed his confidence in City winning the league back in December. He stated: “My feeling today is we’re going to win the Premier League,” adding that despite some disbelief due to three draws, he still believed they could do it again.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola remains confident his side can retain their Premier League title despite a tough start to the season, admitting “it will be difficult” to come out on top, reports the Mirror.
“The difficulty is there and was last season, but if you ask me today what I’m feeling, we’re going to do it again,” he said.
However, after City’s draw with Liverpool, Guardiola was more cautious: “The reflection of that is a good point to say. Except one year when Liverpool won it with a lot of points, we were always there.”
“The question is to be there. It will be difficult with the quality.”
“We need 98 or 99 minutes to draw or win games, Arsenal need 25 minutes to go 3-0 every game but yesterday was a little bit more tight. We knew it last season with Arsenal when they made 50 points in the first leg but that is the point.”
“We make our standards and the teams try to arrive in the best position. I’m not surprised with the situation right now, not at all. Every time it has been quality, you are not going to undermine our previous Premier Leagues, I’m sorry.”
“I know what defines the quality of what we have done, the five Premier Leagues out of six, is the quality of our opponent and this is our opponent for seven or eight years, not even one time did they drop.”
“Sometimes they dropped one season, always they were there. So today what we have done these years against that opponent, against Jurgen’s team, give more credit to what we have done. Arsenal last year came back and will stay for a long time because they are a young team with an exceptional manager.”
