Mark Pope and Kentucky basketball are beginning to make progress on the recruiting trail, and the latest developments surrounding two highly rated 2027 prospects could become an important moment for the Wildcats’ future.
Although Pope has demonstrated an ability to attract experienced players through the transfer portal, recruiting elite high school talent has remained an important challenge. With Kentucky looking to build a stronger foundation for the coming seasons, the 2027 recruiting class presents an opportunity to address that concern.
The Wildcats have already secured a commitment from four-star forward Ryan Hampton. Now, Kentucky appears to be in a promising position with two additional prospects who could significantly strengthen Pope’s recruiting efforts.
Kentucky Gains Momentum in Cheriff Millogo’s Recruitment
One of the biggest developments involves Cheriff Millogo, a highly regarded center whose remarkable size has made him an intriguing target for several major college programs.
On Monday, October 26, On3 recruiting analyst Joe Tipton entered an official prediction favoring Kentucky to land the talented big man.
Millogo stands 7-foot-5 and weighs approximately 250 pounds. Originally from West Africa, he currently plays at the high school level in California.
According to the reported rankings, Millogo holds a four-star rating from 247Sports and is considered a top-50 prospect nationally. ESPN ranks him among the top 10 players in the 2027 class.
His potential arrival could give Kentucky an imposing presence in the frontcourt, making him an attractive addition to Pope’s long-term plans.
However, the Wildcats still face competition from Arkansas, Arizona, North Carolina and Louisville.
Millogo recently visited Lexington, and the visit reportedly went well. Kentucky’s hiring of assistant coach Alfred Aboya, who previously worked at NBA Academy Africa and has connections to Millogo, could also prove beneficial.
Although no commitment date has been announced, the Wildcats appear to have established themselves as serious contenders.
Five-Star Guard Adan Diggs Adds to the Excitement
Kentucky’s recruiting momentum does not end with Millogo.
Five-star combo guard Adan Diggs has narrowed his options to four schools: Kentucky, Arkansas, Arizona and USC. According to On3’s Joe Tipton, Diggs is expected to announce his college decision in November.
The 6-foot-4 guard has impressed with his all-around production. During the Nike EYBL circuit, he averaged 18 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals per game.
247Sports ranks Diggs as the No. 6 overall prospect in the 2027 class, making him a significant target for Pope and his staff.
Adding a player with his versatility could strengthen Kentucky’s future backcourt and provide another talented building block.
Can Pope Turn Interest Into Commitments?
Kentucky already has Hampton committed, but landing Millogo and Diggs would represent a major recruiting achievement.
For Pope, these recruitments offer an opportunity to demonstrate that Kentucky can compete for elite high school talent while continuing to utilize the transfer portal effectively.
Still, predictions and finalist lists are not commitments, and both prospects have other attractive options.
The next steps will be crucial. If Kentucky can close either recruitment, it would strengthen the Wildcats’ 2027 class. Securing both would give Big Blue Nation even more reason for optimism.
Pope’s recruiting plans are beginning to take shape. Now, Kentucky must turn that promising position into results.
