Tyran Stokes may have chosen Kansas over Kentucky, but his upcoming matchup with the Wildcats is already creating plenty of buzz around Big Blue Nation.
The No. 1 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class ended his lengthy recruitment on April 28 when he announced his commitment to Kansas and head coach Bill Self. Kentucky had been one of the major programs involved throughout the process, with Mark Pope and the Wildcats making a strong push for the highly regarded forward.
Now, Stokes will get a chance to face the program he ultimately passed on.
Kentucky and Kansas are scheduled to meet in the State Farm Champions Classic on Tuesday, November 10, at the United Center in Chicago. The game is scheduled to tip off at 9:30 p.m. ET, following the Michigan State-Duke matchup.
The anticipation grew even more after Stokes reacted to the announcement of the game time on Instagram.
His message was short but certainly caught attention.
“Right around the corner.”
That comment immediately added another layer to an already intriguing matchup.
For Kentucky fans, Stokes is not simply another opposing player. His recruitment became one of the biggest storylines surrounding the Wildcats before he ultimately decided to take his talents to Kansas.
Kentucky has since moved forward and built a roster around several high-level additions, including Iowa State transfer Milan Momcilovic. The Wildcats will enter the season with their own expectations, while Stokes will begin his Kansas career under Self.
That makes the November matchup particularly interesting.
There is no need for Stokes to say much before the game. His simple “Right around the corner” message was enough to remind Big Blue Nation that the long-awaited meeting is approaching.
Kentucky will have an opportunity to respond on the court.
The Wildcats’ 2026-27 schedule already features several major games, including matchups involving Louisville, North Carolina and Indiana. But the Kansas game carries an additional recruiting storyline because of Stokes’ decision.
Kentucky and Kansas also have decades of basketball history between them, making the Champions Classic meeting even more significant from a storyline perspective.
For Pope and the Wildcats, the focus will ultimately be on preparing their team and executing once the ball is tipped.
For Stokes, meanwhile, November 10 will mark his first opportunity to face Kentucky after choosing Kansas over the Wildcats.
And with the date now officially approaching, his “Right around the corner” comment has given Big Blue Nation another reason to circle the matchup.
