Kentucky basketball is getting an important opportunity on the recruiting trail, as Mark Pope and his staff prepare to welcome one of the top prospects in the 2027 recruiting class to Lexington.
Top-25 recruit Paul Osaruyi is set to make his way to Kentucky this weekend for an official visit, according to recruiting reporter Sam Kayser. The visit will be the 6-foot-10 prospect’s first official visit, giving the Wildcats an early chance to make a strong impression.
Osaruyi, a 6-foot-10, 225-pound big man from Bella Vista Prep in Phoenix, Arizona, has already attracted significant attention from some of the biggest programs in college basketball. His offer list includes Kentucky, Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, North Carolina, Illinois, BYU, UCLA, Texas and Houston.
He is currently ranked as a four-star prospect by On3, ESPN and 247Sports. On3 has him No. 22 nationally, ESPN ranks him No. 25, while 247Sports has him at No. 18.
The interesting part of his recruitment is how quickly Kentucky has emerged as a serious program to watch.
Back in August, On3’s Jamie Shaw reported that the Wildcats had recently become involved and had made a quick connection with Osaruyi.
“Kentucky is the other school that I have heard recently with the big man. They are a ‘newer’ program in the mix, but seem to have made a relatively quick connection,” Shaw reported.
Now, Kentucky will get the chance to build on that connection in person.
Osaruyi has also continued to raise his profile thanks to his combination of size, athleticism and skill. He was an important part of Bella Vista’s run to the Chipotle Nationals championship earlier this year and is viewed as one of the intriguing frontcourt prospects in his class.
The twist is that while Kentucky has secured Osaruyi’s first official visit, the Wildcats are far from the only major program pursuing him. With several high-profile offers already on the table, Pope and his staff will have plenty of competition as they attempt to turn this visit into something more.
Still, getting the first official visit is significant.
For Kentucky, this weekend could provide Pope and his staff with a valuable opportunity to show Osaruyi what the Wildcats can offer and potentially strengthen their position in what could become a major 2027 recruiting battle.
