Kentucky fans finally have some encouraging news surrounding one of the Wildcats’ most important offensive weapons.
After concerns emerged earlier this month when Milan Momcilovic suffered an injury to his shooting-hand finger, the Iowa State transfer is back on the court and appears to be progressing well ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Kentucky officially began its first practice of the new season on Tuesday, and Momcilovic was active with the team while getting shots up. The Wildcats also gave Big Blue Nation a glimpse of the sharpshooter in action, providing another positive sign that his recovery is moving in the right direction.
Momcilovic initially suffered what was described as a severely jammed finger on his shooting hand. While the injury was never expected to be a major long-term issue, any problem involving the shooting hand of one of Kentucky’s primary scoring options was naturally going to attract plenty of attention.
The latest footage, however, should provide some reassurance.
Momcilovic was also seen shooting during Kentucky’s recent Media Madness event at the Joe Craft Center, and he appeared comfortable while getting his work in. He is still wearing a visible splint, but that appears to be a precaution as he continues the healing process.
For Mark Pope and the Wildcats, seeing Momcilovic back on the floor and knocking down shots is particularly important. Kentucky is expected to rely heavily on his shooting ability and offensive production throughout the upcoming season.
The former Iowa State standout brings elite perimeter shooting to a Kentucky roster that has significant expectations heading into the new campaign. Keeping him healthy will be a major priority as the Wildcats move closer to opening night.
There are still several weeks before Kentucky officially begins the season, giving Momcilovic additional time to fully recover.
The Wildcats are scheduled to open the 2026-27 season on Nov. 3 against Manhattan at Rupp Arena.
For now, though, Kentucky fans can focus on the encouraging development: Momcilovic is back at practice, he is getting shots up, and everything appears to be trending in the right direction.
And on Tuesday, the sharpshooter had another reason to celebrate as he turned 22 years old.
