Kentucky basketball could soon have a new name attached to its jersey, but athletics director J. Batt says the Wildcats are in no rush to make a decision.
As Kentucky continues to look for new ways to generate revenue and strengthen the athletic department, one of the latest opportunities being explored is a jersey-patch sponsorship for the men’s basketball program.
Unlike Kentucky football, which currently has UK Invests featured on its jersey patch, the basketball team has yet to announce a sponsor.
Batt previously agreed to a one-year deal worth nearly $5 million with UK Invests for the football program. That shorter-term agreement gives Kentucky flexibility as the school continues to evaluate its sponsorship opportunities.
Now, attention is turning toward what could become another major partnership for Kentucky basketball.
During Thursday’s Champions Blue Board of Governors meeting, Batt provided an update on the search and indicated that the school has already received considerable interest from potential partners.
“We’ve had a tremendous interest,” Batt told KSR. “Part of what we get to do, because we have so much momentum, is be a little bit choosy. So it’s so important to us that, particularly on that sacred piece of cloth, that we have the right partner.”
That comment suggests Kentucky has multiple options to consider rather than needing to immediately accept the first offer that comes along.
The Wildcats’ basketball brand remains one of the most recognizable in college basketball, with a long history of national success and a strong connection to the NBA. That profile could make the jersey patch a valuable opportunity for both Kentucky and a potential sponsor.
For now, Batt appears focused on finding a partnership that fits Kentucky’s basketball brand and provides the kind of value the university is looking for.
No specific sponsor or announcement date has been revealed, but Batt’s latest comments make it clear that Kentucky is actively exploring the opportunity.
