Kentucky basketball may have finally received some encouraging news on the injury front.
After spending part of the offseason recovering from another foot procedure, junior guard Kam Williams appears to be making meaningful progress. Williams was recently spotted working out with the Wildcats without the protective walking boot he had been wearing.
That development could be significant for Mark Pope and his Kentucky team as preparations for the 2026-27 season continue.
Williams had begun finding his rhythm during the previous season before suffering a foot injury. Although he was able to return during the postseason, the injury required another surgery during the offseason to ensure the foot was properly healed.
Now, seeing Williams back on the court without the boot provides another reason for optimism.
There is still plenty of uncertainty surrounding exactly when Williams will be cleared for full basketball activity, and Kentucky will likely be cautious with his workload. However, his progress gives the Wildcats another important piece to potentially work with as the season approaches.
Williams could also be particularly valuable because of Kentucky’s questions at the power-forward position. His versatility, shooting ability and experience could give Pope another option as he works to finalize his rotation.
The timing is especially important for Kentucky. The Wildcats were dealt another injury concern Friday when Milan Momcilovic suffered an injury to his shooting hand, adding another question mark to the preseason.
For now, though, Williams being out of the boot is a welcome sight.
After dealing with another lengthy recovery, Kentucky fans will be hoping this is the beginning of a healthy return for one of the team’s potentially important contributors.
The Wildcats still have plenty to sort out before the season begins, but seeing Kam Williams back on the court is certainly a step in the right direction.
