Kentucky’s recruiting momentum under Mark Pope continues to build, and one of the nation’s top high school stars has given Big Blue Nation another reason to be excited.
Five-star shooting guard Adan Diggs, the No. 2 overall prospect in the 2027 recruiting class according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, says he has developed a strong relationship with Pope since receiving a scholarship offer from the Wildcats earlier this year.
After reclassifying from the 2028 class to 2027, Diggs has emerged as one of Kentucky’s highest-priority targets. His impressive performances throughout the Nike EYBL season and at Peach Jam have only increased the Wildcats’ interest.
Speaking after Peach Jam, Diggs praised the relationship he has built with Kentucky’s head coach.
“Coach Pope decided to step in and talk to me, and since then I’ve built a really good relationship with him.”
Diggs also had glowing praise for new assistant coach Mo Williams, who has become a key figure in his recruitment.
“Mo Williams is my guy. He’s always keeping in contact with me. I love Mo. Great dude. Always making sure I’m good and making sure I’m locked in before games.”
Kentucky’s coaching staff made multiple trips to watch Diggs compete at Peach Jam, and the talented guard rewarded that attention with an outstanding tournament. Over five games, the 6-foot-4 standout averaged 19.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game, finishing with a dominant 29-point, 11-rebound performance while shooting 11-for-16 in his final outing.
Diggs’ basketball journey has been unique. A former football player, he focused exclusively on basketball around age 12. Once known primarily for his defense and athleticism, he now believes offense has become the biggest strength of his game.
“Over the past couple of years, I really developed my offensive game. Personally, I feel like I’m the best scorer in the country.”
Kentucky faces stiff competition for the elite prospect, with programs such as Duke, North Carolina, Kansas, Houston, USC, Virginia, and BYU all heavily involved in his recruitment.
Now that the summer evaluation period has wrapped up, Diggs plans to begin taking visits, and Kentucky is expected to be one of the schools hoping to get him on campus in the near future.
One factor working in the Wildcats’ favor is Diggs’ relationship with Kentucky commit Ryan Hampton. The two have become familiar through the Nike EYBL circuit, and Diggs admitted the possibility of teaming up in Lexington is an exciting one.
“My guy Ryan Hampton just got there. It’ll be cool if next year we end up at the same school. So who knows.”
While no decision is imminent, Kentucky has clearly positioned itself as a serious contender for one of the nation’s premier recruits. If Mark Pope can eventually land Diggs alongside Hampton, the Wildcats could be building one of the most talented backcourts in the country for the future.
