Kentucky fans may have just gotten their most exciting glimpse yet of what one of the Wildcats’ newest stars can bring to Mark Pope’s offense.
On Friday, Pope shared fresh footage from Kentucky’s summer practice, giving Big Blue Nation a behind-the-scenes look at the team’s progress. While several players made impressive plays, it was transfer forward Milan Momcilovic who stole the show with his incredible shooting display.
The former Iowa State standout buried three-pointer after three-pointer from all over the court. Whether he was spotting up in the corner, pulling up from the top of the key, or firing from well beyond the three-point line, Momcilovic looked completely at home in Pope’s offense. His smooth stroke and confidence immediately caught the attention of Kentucky fans.
The practice video also featured sophomore center Malachi Moreno, as Pope highlighted the duo with the nickname “M&M’s” on social media. Moreno showed his athleticism with powerful dunks and strong finishes around the basket, while Momcilovic stretched the defense with elite perimeter shooting.
The footage only reinforced why there has been so much excitement surrounding Momcilovic since he committed to Kentucky. After shooting nearly 50 percent from three-point range at Iowa State last season, he entered Lexington as one of the nation’s premier shooters and appears to be an ideal fit for Pope’s fast-paced, spacing-oriented system.
Pope’s offensive philosophy emphasizes ball movement, floor spacing, and creating open looks from beyond the arc. Momcilovic’s shooting ability could make him one of the biggest beneficiaries of that system while also opening driving lanes for Kentucky’s guards and creating more room for Moreno and the Wildcats’ frontcourt to operate.
While it’s important not to overreact to summer practice highlights, the early chemistry and confidence on display have given Big Blue Nation plenty of reasons to believe this team has tremendous offensive potential. If these workouts are any indication, Kentucky may have found one of the SEC’s most dangerous shooters.
The season is still months away, but expectations continue to grow in Lexington. If Momcilovic carries this level of shooting into SEC play, he could emerge as one of Kentucky’s biggest stars and a key reason the Wildcats contend for championships.
It may have been just a short practice video, but it was enough to convince many Kentucky fans that Milan Momcilovic is poised for a breakout season in blue and white.
