The Kentucky Wildcats may not have to wait much longer to learn Milan Momcilovic’s final decision.
After officially withdrawing from the NBA Draft, the Iowa State standout is now one of the most talked-about names left in the transfer portal, and Kentucky remains firmly in the middle of the race. Mark Pope and his staff are still searching for one more major addition to complete the roster, and many believe Momcilovic could be the perfect fit.
The 6-foot-8 forward is coming off a huge season at Iowa State where he averaged close to 17 points per game while becoming one of the most dangerous shooters in college basketball. He connected on an incredible 48.7 percent of his three-point attempts while taking more than seven shots per game from deep. For a Kentucky team that still has questions about perimeter shooting, adding a player with that kind of scoring ability would instantly change the outlook for next season.
Right now, Kentucky appears to be battling Louisville and St. John’s for the talented forward. Arizona has also been linked to Momcilovic recently, although reports suggest the Wildcats from Tucson may have entered the race later than the other schools.
This recruitment has become even more interesting because of the names involved. Mark Pope is not only competing against Louisville, but also against Rick Pitino and St. John’s in what could turn into one of the biggest offseason recruiting battles left in college basketball.
There is still no official timeline for Momcilovic’s commitment announcement, but signs continue pointing toward a decision happening sooner rather than later. College basketball insider Adam Zagoria recently hinted that an announcement could come as early as this weekend.
With May quickly coming to an end, momentum around the recruitment is only growing stronger. Kentucky fans are now watching closely to see whether Pope can land the elite shooter many believe could elevate the Wildcats into serious national contender status next season.
