Even though the 2026-27 college basketball season is still months away — and Kentucky’s roster isn’t even fully finalized — the Wildcats’ schedule is already bringing plenty of buzz.
Over the last few weeks, several major updates have surfaced involving marquee matchups, rivalry games, and national spotlight events that could define Mark Pope’s third season in Lexington.
Here’s a full look at Kentucky’s upcoming schedule as we currently know it.
Kentucky vs. Gonzaga Officially Canceled
One of the biggest surprises came when Kentucky and Gonzaga officially ended the remainder of their six-year series agreement.
That means the expected showdown at Rupp Arena this upcoming season is no longer happening.
The series originally began during the John Calipari era, but Gonzaga controlled most of it lately, winning three of the four meetings — including last season’s dominant victory in Nashville.
However, the rivalry may not be completely dead. Both programs are rumored to be involved in the new eight-team Diamond Cup event expected to launch in 2027-28.
Kentucky And North Carolina Set For Madison Square Garden Clash
The Wildcats will once again face North Carolina in one of college basketball’s biggest annual events.
The CBS Sports Classic announced Kentucky and UNC will meet on Saturday, December 19, at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
This matchup serves as a rematch from last season’s ACC-SEC Challenge game in Lexington, where North Carolina defeated Kentucky inside Rupp Arena.
This time, though, the Tar Heels will look very different under new head coach Mike Malone.

Tyran Stokes Headlines Kentucky-Kansas Battle In Champions Classic
Another massive early-season showdown arrives in the Champions Classic.
Kentucky will face Kansas on Tuesday, November 10, at the United Center in Chicago.
The matchup carries extra attention because Kansas features No. 1 incoming freshman Tyran Stokes — a player heavily connected to Kentucky throughout his recruitment.
Kentucky has struggled against Kansas in Chicago historically, currently holding an 0-2 record against the Jayhawks in the Windy City.

Kentucky-Indiana Rivalry Continues In Indianapolis
The historic rivalry between Kentucky and Indiana returns again this season.
After Kentucky won last year’s meeting in Rupp Arena, the Wildcats now travel to Indiana territory for the next chapter of the renewed series.
Instead of Assembly Hall, however, the game will take place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Sunday, December 27.
The rivalry is expected to continue through future seasons with planned games back in Rupp Arena and eventually Bloomington.

Louisville Returns To Rupp Arena
Of course, Kentucky and Louisville will battle once again in the Battle of the Bluegrass.
This year’s rivalry game heads back to Rupp Arena after Louisville defeated Kentucky 96-88 last season in one of the Cardinals’ biggest wins in the rivalry in years.
The official date has not yet been announced, although many fans are hoping the game avoids another unusually early November placement like last season.
Pat Kelsey’s transfer-heavy Louisville roster is expected to present another major challenge for Mark Pope and the Wildcats.
ACC-SEC Challenge Could Send Kentucky On The Road
Kentucky will also participate once again in the ACC-SEC Challenge.
Because the Wildcats hosted games in two of the first three years of the event, many expect Kentucky to travel this season.
Possible opponents reportedly include Virginia or Miami.
The Wildcats defeated Miami in Lexington back in 2023 before suffering losses to Clemson in 2024 and North Carolina in 2025.
Kentucky’s 2026-27 Schedule So Far
vs. Kansas — Champions Classic (Chicago) — Tuesday, November 10
vs. North Carolina — CBS Sports Classic (New York) — Saturday, December 19
at Indiana — Lucas Oil Stadium (Indianapolis) — Sunday, December 27
vs. Louisville — Rupp Arena — Date TBD
at ACC opponent — ACC-SEC Challenge — Date TBD
Even with several dates still missing, one thing is already obvious: Mark Pope’s third season could feature one of Kentucky’s toughest non-conference schedules in years.
