For the past several weeks, Kentucky fans have been hanging on every update involving Malachi Moreno and the NBA Draft process.
Now, after a wave of new reports coming out of the NBA Combine, Big Blue Nation suddenly has a major reason to feel optimistic.
Multiple respected basketball insiders are beginning to believe Moreno could ultimately return to Kentucky next season — and some fans think the latest developments may have quietly revealed where this entire situation is heading.
The biggest talking point came after CBS Sports analyst Isaac Trotter predicted that Moreno would withdraw from the NBA Draft and head back to Lexington for another season under Mark Pope.
That immediately grabbed attention across Kentucky circles.
Trotter has been on-site at the NBA Combine speaking directly with players, scouts, and executives, which makes his prediction feel far more significant than random offseason speculation. Kentucky fans know that when insiders close to the combine start leaning one direction, it usually means real momentum is building behind the scenes.
And that wasn’t the only encouraging update.
NBA reporter Krysten Peek also expressed belief that Moreno could return to Kentucky, while offering an explanation that completely changed how fans viewed one controversial combine decision.
Earlier this week, panic started spreading when Moreno chose not to participate in five-on-five scrimmages. Many fans assumed it meant he had already received strong NBA feedback and was preparing to stay in the draft.
But according to Peek, Kentucky may have actually preferred that Moreno avoid the scrimmages altogether.
The logic behind it makes sense.
Players fighting to improve their draft stock often participate heavily in combine scrimmages because they need to prove themselves to NBA teams. Moreno, however, may have simply attended the combine to receive evaluations and feedback while avoiding unnecessary injury risks before making his final choice.
That detail completely shifted the mood surrounding his draft outlook.
Instead of viewing the situation as a sign Moreno was leaving, many Kentucky fans are now starting to believe the opposite may be true. The growing confidence from national analysts has only added fuel to that optimism.
And if Moreno does return, the impact could be enormous for Mark Pope’s roster.
Moreno remains one of the most talented young big men in college basketball. His size, touch around the rim, rebounding ability, and defensive upside would immediately give Kentucky one of the most dangerous frontcourts in the country heading into next season.
More importantly, his return would provide Pope with another foundational piece as he continues reshaping Kentucky basketball in his first years leading the program.
Of course, nothing is official yet.
The NBA Draft withdrawal deadline is still approaching, and Moreno has not publicly announced a final decision. Until that moment comes, Kentucky fans will continue refreshing social media and monitoring every new report for clues.
But right now, for the first time in a while, the momentum feels different.
And Big Blue Nation is starting to believe the news they’ve been desperately waiting for may finally be on the way.
