Kentucky menโs basketball head coach Mark Pope has added a transfer commitment following a recent decommitment from the Wildcatsโ 2025-26 roster, the program confirmed Thursday. The addition comes after a previously committed prospect reopened his recruitment earlier this week, creating an open scholarship for the upcoming season.
The new commitment addresses Kentuckyโs backcourt depth after the roster change. Pope and his staff identified and secured the transfer within 48 hours of the decommitment, according to a source familiar with the recruitment. The player is expected to enroll for the summer term and be eligible for the 2025-26 season.
The decommitment marked the first scholarship player to back out of a pledge since Pope took over in Lexington in April 2024. Kentucky has now used the transfer portal to fill the vacancy, continuing Popeโs approach of building the roster with multiple ball-handlers to fit his up-tempo system.
A formal announcement from the university with the playerโs name and eligibility details is expected once paperwork is finalized. The Wildcats now have one remaining open scholarship for the 2025-26 roster.
