Former NFL wide receiver Hines Ward has made a bold comparison, likening Arizona State quarterback Jayden Daniels to two-time Super Bowl champion Ben Roethlisberger.
Ward, who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1998 to 2011, including two Super Bowl wins with Roethlisberger, sees similarities between the two quarterbacks.
“He’s a big, physical quarterback who can make plays with his legs,” Ward said of Daniels. “He’s got a strong arm, and he’s not afraid to take hits. He’s a competitor, and he’s got that same kind of mentality that Ben had.”
Daniels, a junior quarterback, has been impressive this season, leading Arizona State to several comeback victories. His ability to extend plays with his legs and make accurate throws under pressure has drawn praise from coaches and analysts alike.
Ward, who now works as an analyst for the Pac-12 Network, has had the opportunity to watch Daniels up close and has been impressed by his growth and development as a quarterback.
“He’s got that ‘it’ factor,” Ward said. “He’s a winner, and he’s got the kind of leadership qualities that you want in a quarterback.”
While comparisons to Roethlisberger are certainly high praise, Ward believes that Daniels has the potential to be a special player.
“He’s not Ben Roethlisberger yet,” Ward said with a laugh. “But he’s got some of those same qualities that made Ben so successful. He’s got the heart of a lion, and he’s not afraid to take risks.”
As Arizona State prepares for its next game, Daniels will look to continue his impressive play and lead his team to victory. With Ward’s endorsement, he’s certainly got the attention of football fans everywhere.
