According to draft analyst Chad Reuter’s latest mock draft, Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers is projected to be taken by the Cleveland Browns in the second round (No. 33 overall). This would put Ewers in a position to potentially replace Deshaun Watson, who signed a $230 million guaranteed contract but has struggled with injuries.
Ewers had a successful three-year stint as Texas’ starter, becoming the program’s third all-time leading passer. He led the Longhorns to back-to-back trips to the College Football Playoff semifinals, but also faced criticism for inconsistent play and injuries.
The Browns’ quarterback situation is uncertain, with Watson’s future with the team in doubt due to his injury history. Backup quarterback Jameis Winston is also entering free agency, leaving the door open for Ewers to potentially start immediately.
Reuter’s mock draft also has the Browns taking Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter with the No. 2 overall pick, which would give Ewers an explosive rookie weapon to work with.
