Illinois Pulls Off Major Upset in Recruiting, Lures 4-Star CB Victor Singleton Away from Powerhouse Programs
In a stunning turn of events, elite four-star cornerback Victor Singleton has committed to Brett Bielema and the Illinois Fighting Illini. The Toledo, Ohio native chose Illinois over a slew of top programs, including Ohio State, Indiana, Michigan, Penn State, and Texas A&M.
Singleton, ranked No. 36 nationally and No. 4 among cornerbacks in the 2026 On300, was considered one of the top targets for Ohio State in the class of 2026. However, he ultimately opted for Illinois, dealing a blow to the Buckeyes’ recruiting efforts.
The 6-foot-0, 160-pound cornerback is the No. 65 overall player in the 2026 class, according to 247Sports composite rankings. His commitment is a significant coup for Illinois, which has been working to rebuild its program under Bielema’s leadership.
Meanwhile, Indiana, which was also in the running for Singleton’s services, will look to other top recruits to fill its needs. The Hoosiers have already landed several highly rated cornerbacks in the 2025 class, including Jaylen Bell, Seaonta Stewart Jr., and Zacharey Smith.
