Mohamed Salah was once again the star of the show for Liverpool as they recorded a thumping 5-0 Premier League win against West Ham United.
The Egyptian maestro scored and assisted one apiece and was in the thick of the action as the Reds extended their gap at the top of the table to eight points.
Salah also became the highest-scoring Premier League player in a month as he brought up his 14th goal contribution of December 2024 with an emphatic performance against the Hammers.
While he didn’t play a direct role in Luis Diaz’s opener, the 32-year-old has made an interesting claim on the goal.
Starting as a centre forward, Diaz enjoyed another successful outing in that position as he broke the deadlock for Liverpool.
The Colombian received the ball from Trent Alexander-Arnold and took a fantastic touch to set himself up to drive forward.
Diaz then ran into the box and attempted to square a pass, but the ball was blocked and the ricochet fell kindly to him.
The Colombian made no mistake with the rebound as he calmly slotted the ball home for the opener, and Salah feels his teammate kept screaming at him as he was in an offside position.
“Luis [Diaz] was screaming and I knew that I was offside I had to run towards the goalkeeper – clever play,” said Salah via BBC.
Liverpool’s attackers shine vs West Ham
In what was a routine win from start to finish, Liverpool emphatically put Julen Lopetegui’s side to bed as they cemented their status at the top of the table.
While Salah notched up a goal and an assist apiece, Diaz and Cody Gakpo also got their names on the scoresheet, while Diogo Jota came off the bench to score a late goal.
Liverpool’s forwards have been in good nick in recent weeks and will look to keep it going when they face Manchester United at Anfield in the new year.
