Liverpool are hopeful of avoiding a pitch inspection ahead of their Premier League match against Leicester City this evening despite heavy fog engulfing Merseyside on Boxing Day.
The Reds host strugglers Leicester in the day’s evening kick off hoping to maintain their lead at the top of the table but thick fog has settled on the region over the past 24 hours. However, club officials insist that there has been no inspection of any kind ahead of the game as of 4.30pm.
The club’s LFC Help account on X (formerly Twitter) stated: “If you are coming to the match today, please ensure you set off earlier than usual due to foggy conditions in and around Anfield stadium. Please take care when travelling.”
The Met Office report that the fog will continue throughout the evening, with their website stating: “Remaining cloudy this evening and overnight with patchy rain and drizzle, especially over higher ground. Turning foggy in places with generally murky conditions for many. Staying frost-free with light winds across the region. Minimum temperature 4 °C”
Liverpool have already seen one game called off this season, with the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park postponed in early December due to Storm Darragh.
The Reds face Leicester this evening before travelling to London to take on West Ham United on Sunday. They are then in action at Anfield on January 5 against Manchester United.
