Jamie Carragher joked that he’d see Mo Salah “in the car park” after a disagreement with the Liverpool star, evoking Roy Keane’s behaviour after Ipswich Town vs Manchester United.
Keane clashed with Ipswich fans at Portman Road after United’s 1-1 draw. There, he was seen exchanging words with one supporter in particular and appeared to tell him to wait for him in the car park.
Carragher’s comments this time followed a suggestion from Salah that Carragher wouldn’t have given him the man of the match award after Liverpool’s victory over Manchester City. Keane appeared to see the funny side, even producing a smile in the direction of his fellow Sky Sports pundit.
Speaking after the Reds’ win, Salah and team-mate Virgil van Dijk learned there was a split decision on who should have won man of the match. While Gary Neville gave Salah the nod, Carragher opted for Van Dijk.
“I’m surprised that Carragher didn’t give it to you,” Van Dijk told his colleague. “He wouldn’t give it to me,” Salah replied with a smile, with Carragher’s in-studio comment following.
The exchange came after Carragher expressed his disappointment with how Salah has handled his contract situation. The Egyptian suggested he was ‘more out than in’ when it came to extending a deal which expires at the end of the current season.
“If he keeps putting comments out, his agent puts out cryptic messages, that is selfish,” Carragher said on Monday Night Football. “That is thinking about themselves and not the football club.”
Carragher had been worried Salah’s transfer comments would distract from Liverpool’s on-field efforts against Real Madrid and Manchester City, but Arne Slot’s side won both games. Salah missed a big chance at 1-0 against City, but ended up sealing victory from the penalty spot in the final 15 minutes.
“Honestly, it’s in my head,” Salah told Sky Sports when asked about his contract situation after the game. “Until now this is the last City game I will play for Liverpool so I was just going to enjoy it.
“The atmosphere was incredible so I will enjoy every second here. Hopefully we just win the league and will see what will happen.”
Salah isn’t the only one out of contract in the summer, with Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold also entering the final few months of their respective deals. All three have remained in the first team, though, helping Arne Slot’s team move nine points at the top of the Premier League while posting a perfect record in Europe.
“The only thing I can say is, when I look at my line-ups, Mo is more in than out. That quote I can give you,” Slot said around the midweek victory over Real Madrid.
