As the January transfer window nears, Liverpool’s focus may well be on keeping their current stars rather than adding to them in the New Year.
There’s just over a month to go until the window opens, although that might not be too welcome on Merseyside with Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah’s futures still in doubt as their contracts wind down.
The latter of those has raised fears of a potential exit with his most recent comments, and it won’t be long until all three can negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs.
With Liverpool riding high in the Premier League and Champions League though, January could offer Arne Slot a chance to strengthen his hopes of silverware, and a familiar face is once again being linked with a move to Anfield.
Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today, including news of a potential exit for Martin Zubimendi.
Martin Zubimendi (Real Sociedad)
Liverpool is confident it will beat Arsenal to the signing of Martin Zubimendi amid reports in Spain that the midfielder has decided to leave Real Sociedad, according to TEAMtalk.
Spanish outlet TDF claims Zubimendi is aiming to leave his boyhood club in January, despite turning down the chance to move to Anfield during the summer in order to stay put. It’s suggested that the 25-year-old has begun to regret not taking his chance to leave, and has now decided the time is right to leave Sociedad.
