Liverpool star is set to miss Liverpool’s clash against Real Madrid in the Champions League tomorrow night (8pm GMT).
The goalkeeper was not spotted in the Reds’ training session at the AXA Training Centre this afternoon ahead of the visit of the Spanish giants. Alisson has been absent for almost two months with a hamstring injury suffered in a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace before October’s international break. The No.1 has missed Liverpool’s past eight matches, with Caoimhin Kelleher deputising.
And Alisson is set to be unavailable for a ninth successive game, with head coach Arne Slot admitting the Brazilian was unlucky to return against Madrid before the 3-2 win over Southampton.
Kostas Tsimikas was a surprise omission at Southampton. The left-back sustained an ankle issue in training before the south-coast win and will again be unavailable after missing training. As will Diogo Jota, who continues to recover from a rib injury.
But in better news, Trent Alexander-Arnold was back among the group. The right-back suffered a hamstring issue in a 2-0 win over Aston Villa earlier this month which ruled him out of England duty. However, Alexander-Arnold was spotted rubbing shoulders with his team-mates before facing Madrid – who have been heavily linked with signing him on a free transfer in the summer.
There could also be a berth on the bench for Federico Chiesa, who was also involved in the session. The summer signing from Juventus has endured fitness frustrations since his arrival and made only three appearances to date.
A win for Liverpool over Real Madrid will see them move closer to automatically qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League, having proven triumphant in their opening four games. The Reds then turn their attention to a seismic clash against Manchester City in the Premier League. Slot’s troops sit eight points clear at the summit of the table and that gap would become 11 if they prevailed against the current champions.
