Alan Shearer has just previewed tomorrow’s showdown between Liverpool and Chelsea at Anfield.
Chelsea travel to Merseyside on Sunday afternoon to play rivals Liverpool in the Premier League.
Reece James is finally available for the first time this season, which means the entire Blues squad is fit and free from injury. However, defensive pair Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella are both unavailable versus Liverpool due to suspension.
Enzo Maresca’s side currently sit fourth in the division table going into the weekend after a positive start to the campaign, but they’re now taking on the early league leaders.
Alan Shearer predicts Liverpool vs Chelsea
Premier League legend Alan Shearer has tipped Liverpool to record a winning result over Chelsea on Sunday.
Shearer told The Metro: “Chelsea will be happy to walk away from Anfield with a point, despite the injury to Alisson. I know they dropped points in their last home game vs Forest, but I would imagine Enzo Maresca would snap your hands off for a point here.
“The key battle will be in midfield, where I think Liverpool have been strong. Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis MacAllister have been superb, alongside Dominik Szoboszlai.
“The international break always makes it a little bit tougher to call, as you wait to see how players are when the return to their clubs, whether they’re ready or not to start the game.
“If everyone is fit and everyone plays, that midfield battle will be key, and I think Liverpool will come out on top.”
Chelsea’s away form
So far, Chelsea have been brilliant on the road this season.
The Blues actually have a 100 per cent win record from their away league fixtures this season versus West Ham, Bournemouth and Wolverhampton Wanderers. They’ve got an impressive 10-2 aggregate lead in the matches, too.
Chelsea are attempting to win their first four away games of a league season for only the third time ever, after 2005-06 (four) and 2008-09 (eight).
It doesn’t get much tougher than a trip to Anfield to take an in-form Liverpool side, but perhaps catching them straight after the international break may be some kind of advantage.
Arne Slot’s Reds side have won six out of seven league matches to date this term. They’ve only conceded two goals in that time, so can Chelsea’s fluent attack unlock their organised defence?
