Liverpool will look to seal their third consecutive Premier League win when they host Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday (4:30pm kick-off). The team will return to action following the international break and look to stay at the top of the table after an astonishing start to the campaign.
However, Arne Slot is still dealing with some injury worries. Alisson Becker will miss the next few games after sustaining a hamstring injury in the win at Crystal Palace earlier this month while Alexis Mac Allister is a doubt.
He was substituted at half-time against Palace with a groin injury and missed Argentina’s first game on the international break. However, he played a total of 60 minutes of their clash with Bolivia in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Without naming names, Slot admitted some players will have to be checked by the medical department before Sunday. “We have a few issues. Let’s see how they are after today,” the Dutch boss said in his Friday press conference.
As for Chelsea, Enzo Maresca was handed a huge boost during the international break with the likes of Levi Colwill, Noni Madueke, Filip Jorgensen and Reece James all coming back from injury. “No, finally we are all available. Unless the suspended ones,” Maresca told reporters during his press conference.
“[Reece James] is available. He worked with us through the international break. Finally, he is back. It’s complicated when you get injuries again and again. It’s not easy – you are always looking for a solution.
“The solution with Reece is the same we are using with Wes [Fofana] and Romeo [Lavia]; using them in one game per week. Reece’s body, at the moment, cannot play twice a week. In this moment, this can be the solution. In the future, I don’t know. The solution is to allow him to go slowly and then in the future we can use him more.”
Meanwhile, Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana have picked up their fifth bookings of the season and will both serve a one-match suspension.
