Alexis Mac Allister could feature for Argentina after complaining of a problem with his right adductor muscle.
Liverpool have received a positive update on the fitness of Alexis Mac Allister ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash with Chelsea.
The midfielder was withdrawn at half-time in the Reds’ 1-0 win over Crystal Palace earlier this month after complaining of a problem with his right adductor muscle. Despite the issue, Mac Allister travelled to South America to join up with Argentina ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia.
The 25-year-old didn’t feature in Thursday’s 1-1 draw with La Vinotinto, having trained away from the squad in the build-up to the game. However, Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni has now confirmed Liverpool’s No.10 is back in team training and could face Bolivia in Buenos Aires in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
“Alexis trained normally yesterday (Sunday) and today we will decide if he is fit to play. We will know after training,” he said during his pre-match press conference on Monday
According to another report from Argentinian outlet TyC Sports, there was ‘good news’ for Scaloni, with Mac Allister having ‘responded smoothly’ in the last few training sessions, meaning he is likely to start for his country against Bolivia.
Certainly, Arne Slot will want Mac Allister fit and firing for the visit of Chelsea to Anfield this weekend. The Blues have made an impressive start to life under new head coach Enzo Maresca and currently sit fourth in the Premier League table.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have won nine of their first 10 games under Slot in all competitions, though Sunday’s clash with Chelsea marks the first of a hugely difficult run of games for the Reds.
