Virgil van Dijk has been the pillar of the Liverpool backline since his arrival and is one of the architects of the club’s recent success.
The Dutchman has looked at his best again this season and is the leader of a Liverpool team that have the best defensive record in the Premier League after seven games.
Van Dijk’s towering performances at the back have contributed to the team being at the top of the Premier League table but he is also in the twilight of his career.
The 33-year-old has little less than eight months left on his current contract and there is still no agreement over a new deal between the club and the player.
Liverpool want to hold on to the veteran defender but regardless of his contract status, the Reds are looking at centre-backs to replace or succeed Van Dijk in the team in the coming years.
The Merseyside giants are looking at younger defenders who could spend their best years at Anfield but are not shying away from considering more experienced but cheaper options as well.
Liverpool keep tabs on 28-year-old centre-back in Germany
According to the Italian sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport, the Merseyside giants are amongst the clubs who are interested in snapping up Tah next summer.
The 28-year-old wanted to join Bayern Munich this summer but the German giants could not agree on a fee with Bayer Leverkusen.
However, the defender will be out of contract at the end of the season and is likely to move away from the current German champions on a free transfer.
Liverpool have their eyes on him as a potential experienced replacement for Van Dijk if he leaves Anfield once his contract expires.
Bayern Munich are still keen on the centre-back and Serie A giants Inter Milan are also interested in getting their hands on Tah.
The centre-back is seen as a good market opportunity by Liverpool to sign a quality and experienced defender next summer.
