Liverpool have one of most valuable squads in world football – but are still being left trailing by three of their main Premier League rivals. The boffins at the CIES Football Observatory have released their latest list of estimated transfer values of players owned by clubs, whether presently in the squad or out on loan.
And using the statistical model exclusively developed by CIES, Liverpool have been calculated as having a squad worth £920million, placing them sixth in the overall rankings.
Leading the way are Real Madrid, with the European Super League advocates said to have a squad worth a whopping £1.45 billion. The Spaniards are some way clear of second-placed Manchester City (£1.23bn), with Premier League clubs Chelsea (£1.16bn) and Arsenal (£1.03bn) next. The top five is completed by Barcelona, whose squad is valued at £941m.
In terms of only Premier League clubs, immediately behind fourth-placed Liverpool are Manchester United (£828m) and Tottenham Hotspur (£741m) and surprisingly Brighton (£675m).
Of the 20 top-flight teams, Ipswich Town are said to have the least valuable squad, behind fellow promoted side Southampton and then Liverpool’s neighbours Everton (£224m).
When ranked by the average transfer value per player, Liverpool move up to fourth in the overall rankings by leapfrogging Barcelona and Chelsea by virtue of having fewer squad members.
But the average value of £27.05m per player in the Reds squad is still significantly lower than leaders Real Madrid (£42.54m) with Manchester City (£31.57m) and Arsenal (£30.14m) second and third respectively.
