Liverpool were a long way from their best on Saturday but still managed to beat Wolves at Molineux.
It was not an easy game for the Reds, despite their hosts being bottom of the Premier League table upon start of play.
Liverpool started sluggishly, looking a shadow of the team who have won three games on the spin of late.
Nevertheless, the Reds rallied and got themselves ahead through an Ibrahima Konate header.
Konate was then at fault as Wolves equalised through Rayan Ait Nouri. A mix-up between the centre-back and Alisson Becker allowed the home side to take advantage and equalise.
After Liverpool got themselves back in-front, Konate stepped up to the plate again, proving a commanding figure to keep Wolves at bay. And after the game, the 25-year-old clearly believed he’d done enough to claim the man of the match award.
Ibrahima Konate fumes on Sky Sports
Konate has been brilliant this season. After starting the campaign out of the team, the defender has bounced back to become an undisputed starter once again.
That continued during the early part of the game against Wolves, with Liverpool on top.
However, things did take a bit of a turn with the equalising goal and that probably ultimately prised the player of the match gong from his hands.
And speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Konate hilariously disputed the decision upon having to hand the trophy over to Gravenberch.
“Who decided who is man of the match?! How is this possible?!” fumed the France international, with a disbelieving smile.
“This is my brother, I have to give it to him but Milan, I score, today I score. No, no, no, what happened?! You know, you have to talk with them!”
Does Ibrahima Konate have a point?
Konate is an absolutely brilliant character and this was a snapshot into just what a big personality he has.
It must be said that Liverpool’s No.5 was absolutely joking during his interview with Sky. There may have been a little bit of truth to what he was saying, but it was all done with a huge smile.
And in fairness to Ibou, he perhaps deserved a shout for the best player of the match award.
Had the Wolves goal not been quite as comically bad as it was, we think Neville may have plumped for Neville after all.
But Ibou can have little qualms given just how poor his mix-up with Alisson was. Maybe next time, Ibou!
