The latest Liverpool news as Manchester City talisman Erling Haaland was spotted limping after their match vs Newcastle with injury checks pending for the Norway goal machine.
Erling Haaland appeared to pick up an injury for Manchester City as the Premier League champions were held to a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United on Saturday lunchtime. The striker, fresh from scoring his 100th goal for the club, failed to add to his tally over 90 minutes.
Josko Gvardiol put Pep Guardiola’s side ahead in the first half before Anthony Gordon – on the radar for Liverpool this summer – then equalised with a penalty after the break. For Haaland it was a frustrating game as he struggled to get involved, although Gordon did have a major say in Newcastle hitting back.
He might have doubled the lead before the tide of the match swung, but took a poor touch when played through on goal. Haaland then found himself largely out of the game.
Following a challenge from Dan Burn – in which his sock was ripped just below his left Achilles – the Norwegian seemed to be far from full flow. After he was spotted limping through the mixed zone at St James’ Park, City are understood to be preparing an assessment to follow this week.
Having already lost Rodri until the end of the season due to his knee ligament injury, Guardiola might well be left sweating over the fitness of Haaland. City did go without him for an extended period last season, over the winter, but still managed to win the title.
Guardiola was pressed on Haaland’s condition during his post-match press conference. The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager said: “He [Haaland] has some knocks, we’ll see the next days.”
Liverpool, who do not face City until the start of December, will be keeping a watchful eye on Haaland’s progress in the coming days. As Arne Slot’s team go head-to-head with City in a race to win the Premier League once more, Haaland is likely to be a key figure in the battle.
