Barring their unexpected slip-up against Nottingham Forest, Liverpool boast a flawless record across all competitions under Arne Slot.
The decision to appoint the Dutchman as Jurgen Klopp‘s successor has proved to be a masterstroke, with the Reds winning four of their five Premier League clashes on top of one game apiece in the UEFA Champions League and the EFL Cup.
The upcoming weeks, however, could prove to be the biggest test for Slot as Liverpool play every three days across all competitions.
As the Reds prepare to travel to the West Midlands to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers, Paul Merson feels another straightforward win could be in the offing for Slot.
Merson credited Liverpool for recovering from their setback against Forest in style as they notched up convincing wins against Bournemouth, AC Milan and West Ham United in their next three encounters.
“I was quite critical of Liverpool after their loss to Nottingham Forest,” wrote Merson in his column for Sportskeeda.
“However, in hindsight, I have to cut them some slack because it was after the international break and a lot of their key players came back from all the travel.
“They’ve bounced back in style by destroying AC Milan and then winning against Bournemouth last weekend.”
While the Arsenal icon acknowledged Wolves’ threat, he thinks Liverpool will secure a routine 3-1 win away from home.
Merson continued: “Wolves are a funny team. I thought they played well against Newcastle, scored a worldie and ended up losing in the end. They must get a win quickly, but I can’t see anything apart from a Liverpool win here.”
Most of Liverpool’s big hitters like Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luis Diaz earned much-needed breathers against West Ham but are set to return to the starting XI at Molineux.
Slot is likely to stick to the team that brushed aside Bournemouth 3-0 in their previous league encounter, although he does face a bit of a selection headache in attack.
Mohamed Salah is a shoo-in on the right wing, but with Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo and Diaz among the goals in recent weeks, it remains to be seen who gets the nod up front.
