Liverpool returned to winning ways in the Premier League after beating AFC Bournemouth 3-0 at Anfield on Saturday.
Luis Duiz scored twice within the space of two minutes and Darwin Nunez added another as the Reds picked up all three points.
Michael Owen and Jermain Defoe praised Nunez, who scored a fabulous goal in the first half.
The Uruguayan striker curled the ball past Kepa Arrizabalaga to make it 3-0 before the break. He was going through a poor run of form, and the goal will give him a lot of confidence.
Owen said on Premier League TV production (during half time): “Absolute sublime like that. What a finish.
Defoe added: “It’s an unbelievable finish. That too on his weak foot.”
Liverpool earn comfortable win
After a disappointing 1-0 loss against Nottingham Forest, the Reds have responded strongly. They picked up a massive win against AC Milan at San Siro in midweek and did incredibly well today to pick up all three points.
Liverpool have now picked up four wins under Arne Slot in the league, and they are building a good momentum, although talks of a title challenge are premature at the moment.
Slot will be really happy with the performances of Diaz and Nunez, and the goals will give them loads of confidence. Mohamed Salah also came close to scoring on a few occasions but the Egyptian couldn’t find the net.
The home fans also saw Federico Chiesa making his Anfield debut and the Italian looked lively when he came on in the second half. Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch also impressed, while the Reds managed to keep a clean sheet as well.
Nunez has a reputation for scoring difficult goals with sublime ease, but he also has the knack of missing sitters.
Liverpool have moved to the top of the Premier League table, but Manchester City or Arsenal can overtake them tomorrow.
