Indeed, we’re entering a critical period at Anfield as the likes of Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah all enter the final years of their contracts.
Of course, there is a lot of speculation around the futures of all three players, and according to Mark Lawrenson, speaking on Off The Ball, there’s a worrying rumour doing the rounds on Merseyside.
Indeed, the pundit says that the rumour around Anfield is that Alexander-Arnold could be tempted by a move to Real Madrid due to his friendship with Jude Bellingham.
Mark Lawrenson worried by Trent Alexander-Arnold rumour
Lawrenson shared what he’s been hearing about the defender.
“With Van Dijk I’m not sure, and with Trent, the big rumour here on Merseyside is that his big mate is playing for Real Madrid isn’t he? And he could walk out the door next summer and play for Real Madrid and get however many millions, that’s a bit of a worry,” Lawrenson said.
Jude Bellingham and Trent Alexander-Arnold are close friends
Alexander-Arnold’s contract talks at Liverpool are said to be going well, but his friendship with Jude Bellingham could tempt him to join Real Madrid.
Indeed, Bellingham and Alexander-Arnold were spotted in Los Angeles together this summer, and so often these footballing friendships can lead to a transfer move.
Of course, Alexander-Arnold is a local lad and a fan favourite at Anfield, so he will be very tempted to stay at Anfield, but there is an undeniable allure around a move to Real Madrid for any player at the top level.
Who knows? Perhaps after losing two Champions League finals to Real Madrid in recent years, Alexander-Arnold’s attitude towards this move could be ‘if you can’t beat them, join them.’
Liverpool need to do all they can to keep Alexander-Arnold, that’s for sure.
