Trent Alexander-Arnold is starring for England under interim manager Lee Carsley – and the national team’s social media team have spotlighted the Liverpool man. Alexander-Arnold, 25, played the full 90 minutes in both Nations League games during September’s international break.
He was named player-of-the-match against Ireland and Finland to boot. In both matches, he was impressive with his range of passing, bursting into new life with the national team.
After coming close in the Ireland game, Alexander-Arnold assisted Harry Kane in the build-up to the opening goal against Finland. He then played a one-two with Noni Madueke to play the Chelsea winger in behind to pull a cross back for Kane to score the second.
Those trademark moments were enough to see Alexander-Arnold get his hands on the player-of-the-match prize for the second straight match. After posting a photo of himself posing with the trophy – while sitting inside the England changing room, the national team’s social media account shared a short video showing him being handed the trophy at Wembley Stadium.
The eight-second clip started with someone placing the trophy down on one of their padded dressing room seats before zooming in and showing what turns out to be Alexander-Arnold putting his hand on it. A huge smile spreads across his face as he looks up at the camera filming him.
Playing in the background was the audio from the Brenda From Bristol meme, as she says: “You’re joking! Not another one! Oh, for god’s sake, I can’t stand this.”
The Finland match was Alexander-Arnold’s 33rd senior cap and his 24th start. That assist for Kane was his first on the international stage since setting up Bukayo Saka for the fifth in a 7-0 win over North Macedonia last June in a European Championship qualifier – but he started that game in midfield.
