John Textor wants to replace Sean Dyche with highly-rated Portuguese coach Abel Ferreira if he acquires Everton, it has been claimed.
The American has made no secret of his desire to takeover the stricken Toffees, though he would first need to offload his shares in Crystal Palace.
Textor is currently in exclusive talks to buy out Everton owner Farhad Moshiri and already owns Lyon in France, Botafogo in Brazil and Molenbeek in Belgium – and his potential arrive could mean bad news for Dyche.
According to a new report from The Sun, Textor is keen on replacing the former Burnley chief with Ferreira, who guided Palmeiras to the Brazilian title last term.
Textor is also an admirer of former Shakhtar Donetsk manager Paulo Fonseca, though it’s accepted it would be difficult to extract the Portuguese coach from his current contract with Italian giants AC Milan.
Regardless of either would actually be attainable, Dyche is seemingly on borrowed time if Textor is successful in his bid to buy Everton in the coming months. The Englishman’s cause is unlikely to have been helped by the club’s poor start to the season with Everton currently rock bottom of the Premier League after losing their first three games.
Everton were docked eight points last season after breaching financial fair play rules and the club are in desper.
Textor recently slammed the rules in an interview with ESPN Brazil, saying: “Let’s start with a definition of financial fair play. That is not a word that people should be throwing around without maintaining consistency with that phrase around the rest of the globe because it sounds like such an obvious thing financial fair play. Everyone would want fair play. That’s not what the expression means in Europe.
“The term financial fair play is a fraud. The reason it’s a fraud is that it’s not fair at all. It says that teams can only spend 75 per cent of their revenues on player salaries and it’s a rule, in Europe, that is designed to allow the big teams with their global brands – Liverpool, Manchester United – they just get to spend more money. It’s not fair at all.
“Crystal Palace has to play against Manchester United and Manchester United is allowed to just spend more on the players. No salary cap, no parity financially, it is not financial fair play, it’s unfair.”
