Dominik Szoboszlai has been discussing pre-season under Arne Slot with the Reds now intensifying preparations in the USA.
The 23-year-old’s first season at Liverpool has been marked by both promising performances and significant challenges.
The Hungarian midfielder, who joined the Reds from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023 for a fee of around £60 million, has shown glimpses of his immense potential, even as he adapted to his new surroundings in the Premier League and Liverpool’s demanding style of play.
Szoboszlai started the 2023/24 season brightly, quickly becoming a key figure in Jurgen Klopp’s midfield. Known for his technical ability, vision, and powerful long-range shooting, Szoboszlai made an immediate impact. He featured in 42 matches across all competitions, scoring 7 goals and providing 4 assists.
Szoboszlai’s role under Klopp involved operating as a box-to-box No. 8, a position that required high energy and athleticism.
Injuries in January and February disrupted his season, affecting his form and limiting his appearances in the latter part of the campaign.
Despite these setbacks, the Hungarian skipper’s early season performances gave enough to have Liverpool fans excited.
WHAT DID DOMINIK SZOBOSZLAI SAY ABOUT ARNE SLOT CHANGES?
Since Hungary were knocked out of the European Championships in the group stage, Dominik Szoboszlai was able to be called up by Arne Slot for the USA tour.
He featured in the AXA friendly against Preston North End and will continue to gain match fitness against Real Betis on Friday.
Speaking to liverpoolfc.com, the 23-year-old revealed that the Dutch manager is changing how the Reds play both in and out of possession:
“It’s a little bit different – the style of playing, how we play, how we are with the ball and also against the ball,” Szoboszlai said.
“Everybody’s in from the training staff [and] we are getting to know them. I think everybody is happy with it and we are looking forward.”
“It’s quite intense but we have a lot of things to do and we need to be intense in the season as well.”
Reflecting on the 2023/24 campaign and what he hopes to achieve in his second season at Anfield, Szoboszlai added:
“It can always be better. Last year we finished third and won the Carabao Cup.”
“This year, [the] Champions League is back again – where we belong – and we want to show ourselves there as well. We are going for the Premier League again.”
“I’m feeling very good, getting ready for the new season. Big games ahead of us, big season, new challenges, so I think everybody is getting ready.”
