Liverpool are weighing up their options ahead of what has been teased to be an exciting summer transfer window.
Liverpool are on the market for a number of new recruits this summer as the club prepares for its first season under Arne Slot. The Dutchman has inherited Jurgen Klopp’s star players but has been assessing transfer targets of his own as he looks to put his own stamp on the team.
After last season’s injury crisis across the backline — which saw Joël Matip’s final campaign cut short by an ACL tear — the Reds are looking at new defensive options. Both centre-backs and full-backs have been on their radar so far and Liverpool are expected to sign at least one to ensure they do not see a repeat of their multiple injury blows.
Richard Hughes recently told the media that they can expect business from Liverpool next month, teasing a ‘crescendo in August’ while the club pieces things together. Links old and new continue to be discussed and it’ll be interesting to see where the Reds start with their negotiating.
Liverpool have been monitoring the Wolves star for a while now and a report from La Gazette du Fennec last month claimed that the West Midlands club had placed a €45 million (£34m) price tag on their defender. However, this came before the sale of Max Kilman to West Ham, which could halt Wolves selling more of their key players or even encourage them to up the asking price of the likes of Aït-Nouri.
Transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey has said as much anyway, speaking to Molineux News about the likelihood of the left-back also being sold on this summer.
“With Kilman going, the belief at Molineux is that they don’t need to sell anyone else. They thought the Kilman money was too hard to turn down, obviously, every player has a price, Aït-Nouri is one of those as well,” the HITC reporter said.
“I haven’t heard any fresh links about him and Liverpool, again, I think with Kilman going, Aït-Nouri is less likely, you can’t let everyone go.” Wolves are in that position if they can get a big enough offer, but are Liverpool going to offer big money for a left-back? I’m not convinced they will. They obviously like him, they’ve been watching him but he’s not going to be cheap. I’m not convinced he will leave this summer.”
Liverpool have been on the market for a new left-back since both Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas faced spells on the sidelines last season. Their absences forced Joe Gomez to step in on the left of the defence. Recent reports have also linked Tsimikas with an exit, which will leave Slot and co with just one natural left-back if the Greek star does leave. However, it seems Wolves are going to be a tough nut to crack for Aït-Nouri this summer, so their interest may have reached a dead end for the time being.
