Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Atalanta’s Ederson ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Brazilian midfielder has reportedly been the subject of interest from the Reds, and Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola has even gone as far as to say that Liverpool have made a €45m offer for the 24-year-old already.
Although conflicting reports have since emerged since, it is believed that the Anfield club do hold some kind of interest in Ederson.
The 24-year-old was a driving force behind an Atalanta squad that won the Europa League, their first European championship in club history – He had a fantastic 2023–24 season.
In the final he was particularly outstanding. His work in the engine room helped the Bergamo side defeat Xabi Alonso’s almost Invincibles 3-0.
Ederson finished his season seven goals and one assist in 53 games across all competitions – and was a nailed-on starter for manager Gian Piero Gasperini
In addition, Ederson was called up to the Brazil national squad for the first time this summer in advance of Copa America
A strong showing in the USA this summer could lead his price to be driven up and cause other clubs to take notice of him if they haven’t already.
Many Liverpool fans have resonated with his no-nonsense approach and high productivity in the centre of midfield – by all accounts a Liverpool-style player.
But now Fabrizio Romano has provided an update that may put the transfer in further doubt.
WHAT DID FABRIZIO ROMANO SAY ABOUT EDERSON?
Fabrizio Romano has dismissed claims that a bid has already been made for the Brazilian midfielder.
Furthermore, the transfer of Teun Koopmeiners to Juventus could mean that Atalanta do not want to sell anymore key players.
The Italian transfer guru said to CaughtOffside:
“We heard reports of a bid from Liverpool for Ederson, but what I’m hearing at the moment is that Atalanta have not received anything official.”
“They know that there is interest but they absolutely want to keep the player at the club.”
“Why? Because there’s potential for Atalanta to sell Teun Koopmeiners, with Juventus leading the race for the Dutch midfielder.”
“They have already advanced on personal terms with Koopmeiners, and the idea of Atalanta is to sell just one player.”
Ironically, a player that Liverpool have historically looked at in Teun Koopmeiners could potentially stop them from signing Ederson – if they are planning on of course.
Going by his former coach Tiago Nunes at Corinthians, Ederson is perfectly suited for the rigors of the Premier League:
“He is a box-to-box player with the energy to keep going back and forth all the time,” Nunes began to Sky Sports.
“My first impressions were of a player with a lot of strength, a lot of physical ability, a player who was a powerful striker on the ball, with good technique.”
“He has the ability and the physicality to handle the pace of the game,” Nunes explains.
“This is a player with very particular characteristics who can develop even more in a league as strong as the Premier League.”
