Soon-to-be Liverpool head coach Arne Slot reportedly does not regard himself as a disciplinarian type of boss, but the Reds squad could be forced to pay for stepping out of line next season. The Dutchman favours a fines system for players who step out of line, and he will be hoping that he does not need to stamp his authority on the Reds squad next season.
Jurgen Klopp announced in January that he will be leaving Liverpool as he is ‘running out of energy’ in the Anfield dugout. The ex-Borussia Dortmund manager was hoping to bow out with a treble, though he looks set to be forced to settle for just success in the Carabao Cup.
A disappointing run of results were epitomised when Mohamed Salah and Klopp came to loggerheads on the touchline in Liverpool’s draw with West Ham. After a period of squabbling, Darwin Nunez was forced to intervene and pull his teammate away from the situation.
Klopp insisted that the matter was dealt with privately in the dressing room after full-time, just moments before Salah reignited the drama by claiming there would be “fire” if he spoke out about the incident.
The discipline of the Egypt international has been questioned, given that he is part of the Reds’ leadership group, and one of the most experienced players in the squad. It is unclear whether there will be repercussions for Salah in what remains of the season, or if Klopp is willing to overlook the matter to ensure that his final few matches on Merseyside are stress-free.
Slot will certainly be aware of the incident though and the punishment for the ex-Roma star could be markedly different if he was manager of Liverpool. According to The Athletic, the 45-year-old is not a strict boss and favours a ‘positive and favourable’ environment.
