Crystal Palace made Sunday a day to remember at Anfield, as Oliver Glasner’s side caught the headlines for several reasons with their impeccable 1-0 win over Liverpool.
What a day it was for Crystal Palace, who secured Oliver Glasner’s first Premier League away win in style against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
It was the first time a club had won at Anfield this season against Jurgen Klopp’s title-challenging side, causing a major upset in the title race and a magnificent victory for the South Londoners.
From defensive mastery to an outstanding attacking display, it would be difficult to pinpoint a particular area that won Palace the game, with the standout moment being Eberechi Eze’s first-half goal to determine the direction of the three points.
The win stood for a lot more than three points, as not only did the Eagles become the first side to win at Anfield this season, but became the first side to do one thing over Klopp during his time at Liverpool.
What Crystal Palace achieved against Liverpool that had never been done before
By beating Liverpool on Merseyside, Palace became the first team to win and keep a clean sheet against the Reds since March 2021 however, that wasn’t the only significant achievement on the day.
Klopp will be thankful to not have to meet Crystal Palace again when in charge of Liverpool, as on Sunday, the Eagles became the first side to win three Premier League games against Liverpool at Anfield since the German took charge.
The statistic is made even more remarkable when you consider that no other team has beaten Klopp more than once at Anfield, with Palace now winning on three occasions.
Wins from 2015, 2017 and now 2024 have cemented the Eagles in Klopp’s memory at Anfield, unlocking the Champions League-winning manager more times at home than anyone else in the Premier League.
Crystal Palace will want to build on the Liverpool result
It was more than just a win in terms of the record books however, it was also more than three points from a Palace point of view, as Glasner saw his side work tirelessly to ensure their early advantage counted for something.
The Austrian will of course enjoy the moment although, he will want to now build on the victory to ensure his side does something they haven’t achieved all season.
With just six games left to play, Palace are yet to secure back-to-back wins in the league, telling of their frustrating lack of form this term.
Next up comes West Ham at Selhurst Park, giving Glasner the opportunity to finally build some form with the Eagles.
